There was plenty of intense Rocket League action during Day One of the DreamHack Pro Circuit. Thirty-two teams were cut down to sixteen in four double elimination groups. By the end of the day, the sixteen teams moving on had been decided, and they had all been seeded in the top 18. You may think that means the tournament was predictable, but there were plenty of exciting moments throughout the day.
The first pool contained top seed Renault Vitality who, after defeating 32nd seed beepboop, fell to 15th seed Mousesports. They then played a close series against 23rd seed y0, who took them to Game 5. The number 1 seed Vitality was able to clinch the win though, and move on to Day Two. They are joined by Mousesports, TSM, and Method, who managed to upset Spacestation Gaming to make it to Day Two.
Second seed NRG had a perfect first day, defeating both their opponents 3-0. Dignitas also had a dominant performance on Day One, even if their plays came as a surprise, even to them.
Dignitas defeated their first opponents 3-0, moving on to face 9th seed Renegades from Australia, one of only two teams from Oceania. Renegades put up a good fight, but in the end were sent to the lower bracket. There, they 3-0’d 17th seed Splyce, who were missing one of their key players this weekend in Karma. NRG, Dignitas, and Renegades will be joined by Evil Geniuses moving on to Day Two. With Evil Geniuses’ relegation to RLRS last weekend, their success through Day One of the Dallas DreamHack Pro Circuit was a much needed confidence booster.
FC Barcelona, the team with the greatest seeding increase over their original Pro Circuit seed from DreamHack Leipzig (15th seed in Leipzig to 3rd seed in Dallas), was top of their group. They also 3-0’d both opponents for a flawless run into Day Two. The other Winner’s Semi-Final between G2 and Complexity was very close, going all the way to Game 5 overtime to decide a winner. G2 made it through, sending Complexity to the lower bracket to face Upper90 Esports. Though Upper90 had a difficult time in Season 7 of RLRS, they had a very good run in the DreamHack Valencia qualifiers earlier in the month. They gave Complexity a run for their money, but in the end, Complexity made it through to Day Two alongside The Peeps, who have also been on a hot streak lately, having already earned their invite to DreamHack Valencia.
Cloud9 was seeded 4th overall heading into the Pro Circuit, and won six games in a row to move on to Day Two uncontested. PSG also made it through to Day Two, by defeating 11th seeded Rogue. While in the lower bracket, Rogue made one of the most incredible passing plays ever as part of their winning match against RBG Esports.
The biggest story of the day was that ICON was able to move on to after falling to the lower bracket, meaning that both of the teams from Oceania were able to make it through their groups.
Day Two kicks off today at 12:00PM CDT, with two streams featuring twenty matches of some of the best Rocket League has to offer. Don’t miss it! For the full bracket, including which matches will be on stream, click here.
