The cosplay competition at DreamHack Atlanta 2025 will feature a structured schedule, including prejudging, a line-up of contestants, a showcase walk, an intermission, the awards ceremony, and a group photo to celebrate all participants.

Win the Ultimate Cosplay Experience!

The Best in Show winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to DreamHack Stockholm, happening November 28–30, to compete in their official cosplay competition. The prize includes roundtrip flights for two, hotel stay, meals, and a $500 USD stipend.

This top honor is awarded to the cosplayer who delivers an best combination of craftsmanship, creativity, and overall presentation. All entrants—regardless of tier—are eligible for this award.

Selection process

Participants cannot compete wearing a cosplay that has previously placed in the top three of any category at DreamHack Cosplay Championship. Each contestant will have a few minutes for pre-judging and up to 1 minute on stage from entering to exiting. Experts may send in up to 60 seconds long music file for their catwalk (optional)

Tier & Category

The judges will have final decision and right to interpret our criteria while judging. All decisions are final, and must be respected. The judges have the right to change the contestant’s tier before the stage show based on the contestant’s experience and the cosplay they have chosen to compete in. We may consult with the judges prior to the event if we believe a re-tiering may be in order.

What can you cosplay?

We allow cosplays from all media, video games, role-playing games, comic books, manga, anime, TV or film adaptations, fan art etc. We also allow for gender bends, gijinkas and original characters (e.g. DnD characters, or your character from a game). Important to note that you still need to bring reference materials for your design. Please note that mascot costumes or bought dress-up costumes are not acceptable to compete with.

APRENDIZ

Crafting experience
This category is for cosplayers who have not previously won a DreamHack cosplay competition and do not have formal crafting education (e.g., sewing, welding, 3D printing). Costumes must be self-made, though modified or altered garments are allowed.

ARTESANO

Highly Skilled
This tier is for contestants who have progressed beyond the Novice level but are not yet ready for the Expert tier. Costumes must be self-made, though modified or altered garments are allowed. Winners in the Artisan tier will advance to the Expert tier in their next event.

Experto

The Top Tier

Contestants aiming to compete at a higher level must wear self-made costumes—excluding base wigs, shoes, and undergarments—and winners of the Expert category cannot enter Artisan in their next event.

BEST IN SHOW

Top Honors

Awarded to the standout costume of the entire competition, regardless of category. This honor goes to the cosplayer who demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship, creativity, and overall presentation. All contestants, including Expert tier participants, are eligible for Best in Show.

Nope! Everyone is welcome to cosplay at DreamHack—no sign-up required. Come dressed as your favorite character and enjoy the festival!

  • Cosplay Creators are part of our featured cosplay program. If accepted, you’ll get cool perks like a free badge, lounge access, and other exclusive opportunities.
  • Competencia de Cosplay is your chance to show off your skills on stage and win prizes. It’s a separate sign-up just for the contest.

Not automatically. The competition and the creator program are two separate things. You need to apply to each one individually if you want to do both.

Absolutely! If you want to be part of our featured Cosplay Creators and compete in the contest, just make sure to fill out both applications.

Reglas y Rúbrica

  1. Los concursantes deben estar tanto en el prejuzgamiento como en el espectáculo para ser elegibles para competir.
  2. Todos los cosplays serán evaluados según la rúbrica que se muestra a continuación. 
    1. A valid convention badge is required to compete (If accepted before September 5th, 2025, you will be signed up using your First Name, Last Name, and email for a 3-Day badge after accepting a competition spot). 
  3. El contenido no debe ir más allá de PG-13, ya que el evento es apto para familias: no se permite lenguaje ofensivo de ningún tipo, ni epítetos raciales o sexuales; sin malas palabras, etc. Sin violencia excesiva. Ninguna actividad o contacto sexual, real o implícito.
  4. Todos los disfraces deben ser al menos un 60 % hechos por ellos mismos, a menos que compitan en la categoría Experto. Si eres elegido para competir en la categoría Experto, tu construcción debe ser al menos un 80 % hecha por ti. Se permite alterar/ahorrar/actualizar piezas compradas siempre que los cambios sean significativos (a discreción de los jueces).
    1. Para los elementos de fabricación ensamblados mediante métodos sin costura, como forja de espuma, impresión 3D, pepakura, escultura o conformado al vacío, etc., los patrones comprados cuentan para sus porcentajes no hechos por usted mismo. Los artículos producidos a partir de estos patrones se evaluarán según las modificaciones en los archivos base, la construcción, los acabados, la pintura, etc. Todas las modificaciones a los patrones deben documentarse para contar en sus porcentajes de fabricación propia durante la evaluación.
  5. All WIP images must be sent to the Contest Organizers by August 22nd, 2025 at the latest.

  7. Cosplays you are applying with MAY NOT have won a competition previous to October 30th, 2025.

  8. No se permiten “dabbing”, referencias a drogas, etc.
  9. Todos los cosplays y accesorios deben ser autónomos, sin fuego, llamas, humo, niebla, hielo seco, máquinas de viento, láseres, gases o líquidos presurizados, sustancias sucias (húmedas, secas o aceitosas), incluidas brillantina, pétalos de flores, etc en la sala verde o en el escenario.
  10. No saltar dentro o fuera del escenario; utilice las entradas y salidas designadas del escenario.
  11. No hay peleas en el escenario (un pie debe permanecer en el escenario en todo momento y cualquier pelea simulada debe realizarse a distancia y a media velocidad, sin contacto físico)
  12. Los concursantes no podrán utilizar el tiempo en el escenario para realizar manifestaciones políticas, religiosas, insultantes o de otro tipo que no estén relacionadas con su participación.
  13. La deportividad es importante. Cualquier acoso no será tolerado y resultará en la descalificación y/o eliminación del festival.
  14. Cualquier violación de estas reglas resultará en la descalificación inmediata. 
  1. (10 pts máximo) Ejecución general del cosplay y creatividad.
  2. (9-10) Costuras limpias, uso de luces y sombras, peinado limpio de pelucas, bordes de armadura suaves, técnicas de acabado, etc.
  3. (7-8) La mayoría de los detalles están limpios y acabados, una técnica/elemento menos pulido.
  4. (5-6) Los detalles están presentes, pero faltan toques finales. Las costuras pueden estar sin terminar, bordes de armadura ásperos, sin sombras/resaltados, etc.
  5. (3-4) Detalles mínimos, las técnicas en su mayoría mal ejecutadas, el cosplay no está del todo terminado.
  6. (0-2) Sin detalles, las técnicas están mal ejecutadas, el cosplay está inacabado.
  1. (10 pts maximo) – Nivel de complejidad del cosplay seleccionado. Variedad de técnicas utilizadas. Los artículos comprados sólo cuentan en su contra si no se ha realizado ninguna transformación.
  2. (9-10) El cosplay utiliza 3 o más materiales principales, 3 o más técnicas utilizadas Y menos del 10% comprado.
  3. (7-8) El cosplay utiliza 2-3 materiales principales y 2-3 técnicas diferentes Y se compra menos del 20%.
  4. (6-5) El cosplay utiliza 1 o 2 materiales y 1 o 2 técnicas diferentes O se compra entre un 30 y un 40 %.
  5. (3-4) El cosplay se ciñe a un par de técnicas básicas O se compra entre un 40 y un 50%.
  6. (0-2) El cosplay se basa en una única técnica O se compra más del 50%.
  1. (10 pts maximo) Impacto general del disfraz.
  2. (9-10) El parecido está realmente ahí en términos del material. Los cosplayers se han asegurado de adaptar mucho el cosplay a ellos mismos para que las proporciones sean las correctas.
  3. (7-8) Se puede ver claramente al personaje, la mayoría de los detalles están adaptados en gran medida a las proporciones, o el uso de materiales ayuda a acercarse a la referencia.
  4. (5-6) Se nota un parecido, pero falta ese pequeño extra.
  5. (3-4) Se ha hecho un esfuerzo mínimo para seguir el material de referencia. Se puede ver el parecido, pero muchos de los detalles simplemente no están ahí.
  6. (0-2) Pobre parecido y desviándose mucho del material original y de las referencias.

Cada juez tendrá la oportunidad de destacar a un concursante de su elección aparte de nuestros premios de artesanía. Esto está reservado para concursantes que no hayan recibido reconocimiento dentro de los premios de la categoría.

This distinction celebrates a craftsmanship that stood out above all others, showcasing an exceptional combination of creativity, technical execution, and stage presence. It represents the spirit of cosplay at its finest where passion, talent, and storytelling come together to create an unforgettable impression.

The winner of this award will be flown to compete in the Expert category at DreamHack Stockholm 2025, November 28 – 30, 2025. This covers 2x round-trip international economy flights (in and out of the same aiport), 1 hotel room with 2 beds, local transportation (may be in the form of vouchers with a price cap) for the competitor and a +1. 

  • If a duo wins best in show, the prizing does not change. It will still be a round trip international economy flight for 2 individuals, 1 shared hotel room with 2 beds, and travel vouchers. 
  • This is reserved for contestants who have not received recognition within the category awards.
