The Rejection Artist: How to Stay Motivated When Trying to Break Into the Game Industry

Sat, Nov 17
5:00PM–6:00PM

DESCRIPTION
I’m a game developer who has worked in both the triple A (Mortal Kombat X, Injustice 2) and indie game (Mutant Football League) worlds. I’m currently an esports and gaming journalist acting as the editor in chief for Sugar Gamers, an outlet that focuses on inclusion for underrepresented demographics in gaming and geek spaces.
IGDA Chicago has called upon me multiple times to give talks and moderate panels. One talk that was particularly successful was my talk about handling rejection in the game industry and it’s one that I want to to share at DreamHack. The session will discuss my background, the current climate of the game industry’s job market. Addressing issues of inclusiveness and hiring practices and what to do while waiting to score that dream job. I always leave room for questions at the end. My goal with this talk is to set realistic expectations and motivate game industry hopefuls not to give up on their dreams.
