Our Judges

YAYA HAN is one of only few cosplayers in the world to build a business in this hobbyist community, but even after a decade of success, she strives to stay true to what got her into this field originally – fun and creativity. To this day, Yaya has made over 375 costumes, appeared as a Guest at hundreds of events all over the globe, and been featured in two US Network TV Shows. Yaya is the first cosplayer to create a cosplay-focused fabric line for Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores; the first to design a cosplay pattern line for a major company, McCall Patterns; and the first cosplayer to launch a sewing machine with Bernina Sewing Machine Company.

HARRISON KRIX is the owner and lead artist for the Atlanta based propmaking studio Volpin Props. Founded in 2008, Volpin Props has evolved over the last decade from one propmaker in his garage making kit helmets to a full studio employing many talented artists specializing in prop replicas and eSports awards for the videogame industry. The work produced by Harrison and Volpin Props can be seen on stage at some of the world’s largest eSports events, such as the Overwatch World Championship and League of Legends LCS competitions. Those interested in propmaking and the process behind it can check out the Volpin Props Instagram, Facebook and Website for detailed behind-the-scenes looks at every element of prop and replica fabrication.

CATHERINE JONES is the owner of God Save the Queen (GSTQ) Fashions, a costume fabrication shop based out of Atlanta, GA.   Her company creates items for television, film, the videogame industry, and cosplayers.  GSTQ has made items for Sony Playstation’s POWERS, NBC’s Constantine, AMC’s Preacher, The CW’s Black Lightning, FOX’s The Gifted, Rampage (starring Dwayne Johnson), and True Memoirs of an International Assassin (starring Kevin James).  Catherine’s shop has also done work for Microsoft, Hi-Rez Studios, and Marvel Becoming.

Quick facts about entering the DreamHack Cosplay Championship

The full rules are available on the entry form, but this is some basic info to get you started.

Eligibility: All contestants MUST check in and be prejudged and you will need a DreamHack ticket. Nothing dangerous or offensive (we don’t want sexual costumes, fire, or glitter on the stage). Mock fighting is cool if it’s in slow-motion and completely fake (no physical contact). And PLEASE don’t bully anyone. If you think your costume is better than anyone else’s, let the crowd cheer you on.

Selection Process: Each contestant will have 10-15 minutes for pre-judging and up to 2 min on stage from entrance to exit. Contestants will be judged on preparation, craftsmanship, presentation, creativity, and an added bonus of Star Power. Star Power points will be awarded to contestants who can really engage the crowd and get them to go insane with applause!
