Open Qualifiers Details
Phase 1 – Seeding Stage
- Heats: 3*
- Format: Swiss, Best of Three (Bo3), No eliminations
- Mode: Final Round (3v3).
- Seeding in this Phase is random for each heat.
- All teams are seeded into Phase 2 – Elimination Stage based on their performance in the Phase 1 – Seeding Stage 1-3
*Each heat is a separate tournament – Seeding Stage 1, 2 and 3. Teams are only required to sign up for the Seeding Stage 1 (SS1). The tournament administration will then automatically add all participating teams to the brackets for the two subsequent stages. SS2 will begin once SS1 is complete, and SS3 will begin once SS2 is complete.
Phase 2 – Elimination Stage**
- Heat: 1
- Seeding is based on the Phase 1 – Seeding Stage results
- Format: Single Elimination, Best of Three (Bo3)
- Mode: Final Round (3v3).
- Final 8 teams standing will qualify for the Closed Qualifier.
**The Elimination Stage will begin approximately 15-30 minutes after all three seeding stages have concluded. This brief intermission is required for the tournament administration to finalize the seeding and generate the official bracket.
- Regions: NA and EMEA.
- Every region will receive two open qualifier chances.
- In total, 16 teams will qualify from each region for the Closed Qualifier (8 teams x 2 chances)
- The 16 qualified teams from their respective regions will compete against each other to fight for invitation spots to The Grand Major.
This section outlines the progression guidelines through our formats that are currently implemented for The Grand Major.
- Open Qualifier – Phase 1 (Seeding Phase)
- The open qualifiers begin with a seeding phase, where teams are randomly matched in the Final Round (3v3) mode. This phase will consist of three heats, with teams competing against one another based on their identical win/loss records. The purpose of this phaseis to establish the initial seeding for teams in the Single EliminationBracket for Phase 2.
- Open Qualifier – Phase 2 (Elimination Phase) After organizing the stronger teams to face off against the weaker ones and consolidating the uncertain teams from Phase 1 into a single elimination bracket, the competition kicks off with a Final Round (3v3) format that features a Best-of-3 series. Teams that secure victories will advance, while those that do not will be eliminated from the open qualifiers. Once only 8 teams remain, they will receive invitations to participate in our closed qualifiers.
- There will be two chances for NA and EMEA. If you’re eliminated in the first open qualifiers, you still have a second chance to qualify with the same system.
Closed Qualifiers
The best from Open Qualifiers face off in live events broadcasted from the ESL studio in Stockholm. This is where rising talent meets pro-level pressure. Only a few will secure their ticket to the main stage.
